Carolla Completes Newman Collection
• Comedian, podcast host and serious car enthusiast Adam Carolla and GIVE ME THE VIN™ founder/national radio host John Clay Wolfe teamed up to purchase Paul Newman‘s iconic 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB, also known as the “Prancing Clydesdale.” This particular Ferrari (s/n 19595), was the first 308 GTB in the U.S., and was featured on the cover of Road & Track, raced by Newman, and sponsored by Budweiser.
“This is what happens when two friends that are car geeks have a few drinks,” Wolfe joked. “I knew about this Ferrari earlier this year, and after seeing Adam’s collection [of Newman’s Championship Race Cars] at the National Automobile Museum in Reno, we knew this was the final piece to make the collection complete.”
Carolla noted, “It’s a legitimate Newman race car. Some are a little dubious, [like] he drove it one time for a celebrity race… but this is a Paul Newman car, I think he did eight races… a season, in it. It’s a cool piece.”
The undisclosed purchase price includes the transport, both of which are currently on display at Wolfe’s GMTV Garage in Walnut Springs, TX, about an hour southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth, which is quickly becoming a destination for car enthusiasts. We understand that Carolla’s collection will soon be moving to a new location, and the newly acquired Ferrari will then be united with Carolla’s other Newman-owned cars.
