Carter Alan NOT Goin’ Fishin’

• iHeartMedia Boston announced the upcoming retirement of legendary Boston radio personality Carter Alan, APD/midday talent on Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX, wrapping up a stellar 47-year run on the local airwaves. He will host his final show on Friday, Dec. 18. Watch Alan’s announcement HERE.

Alan, one of Boston’s most recognized classic rock radio voices, began his career at the late, legendary WBCN, where he spent 19 years as a DJ and Music Director, helping launch the Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble, the longest running battle of the bands’ competition in the United States. He is also credited with helping introduce U2 to American radio in 1980 by playing “I Will Follow” on air. In 1998, Alan joined WZLX, where he has served as APD and midday host, building a lasting legacy in the industry.

“After 47 remarkable years in Boston radio at WZLX and WBCN, it’s time for my boot heels to be wanderin’!, Alan said. “What an endless parade of friends, characters, stars and hopefuls; I’ve met and interviewed seemingly everyone. Time to move over, rover! Retirement means no schedule and staying up as long as I want — I’m ready for that!”

Following Alan’s retirement, WZLX PD Chris Tyler, co-host of The Chuck Nowlin Morning Show, will take over middays. “Working with Carter for the past decade has been one of the highlights of my career,” Tyler said. “He’s a legendary talent, and an even better human being. It’s been a true honor. Rock on Carter!”

To celebrate Alan’s lengthy career, WZLX will air a special retrospective featuring highlights from the audio and photo archives, with additional content available on the station’s social media accounts.

The good news: Alan will continue to make occasional on-air appearances following his retirement.
