Cavanah Named PD of WLS-FM/Chicago

• Cumulus Media has appointed Todd Cavanah as the new Program Director of Classic Hits 94.7 WLS-FM/Chicago. It’s safe to assume that Cavanah knows his way around the market, having spent the past 33 years across the street with Audacy Top 40 B96, where he was first named PD in 1993. He also served as VP of Programming for CBS Radio Chicago and Audacy Chicago and had also programmed WUSN (US99), Classic Hits WJMK (104.3 K-Hits), and Classic Hip Hop WBMX (104.3 JAMS) over time until his departure in early April. Earlier in his career Cavanah worked at KTRS/Casper, WY, KRXY/Denver, and Elektra Records.

Marv Nyren, VP/Market Manager of Cumulus Chicago, said, “Having an experienced and talented Program Director like Todd Cavanah join 94.7 WLS-FM and the Cumulus Chicago team is a perfect fit. Todd’s track record of success in Chicago is second to none and his presence is already being felt in the hallways. Todd’s impact with our amazing on-air talent and entire station positions us for success for years to come.”

Cavanah commented, “It’s an honor to program the legendary WLS-FM in the city that I have called home since 1987. When I first spoke to Marv Nyren and Brian Phillips about this job, I knew Cumulus and 94.7 were a perfect fit for me. Their support for this amazing brand is refreshing and I look forward to elevating WLS-FM and taking these call letters to the top of the ratings.”

WLS-FM was most recently programmed by Wade Linder, who this summer returned to the Twin Cities as PD of Classic Rock 92 KQRS, swapping cities with James Kurdziel, who moved to Chicago as PD of AlternativeWKQX (Q101).
