CMG San Antonio Ups Roberts, Adds Calgaro

• Cox Media Group San Antonio announced a pair of significant programming moves — Rob Roberts has been promoted to Director of Operations for the seven-station group, and veteran Rock programmer Joe Calgaro joins the company as Director of Programming for heritage Rock 99.5 KISS and Classic Rock KTKX (106.7 The Eagle). Those duties were previously held by Keith Hastings, who in April was named Brand & Content Director of Hubbard Classic Rock WDRV (97.1 The Drive)/Chicago.

Roberts (left) will continue to program Classic Hits KONO 101.1 and Hot AC KSMG (Magic 105.3) as he has for the past three years, and Christi Brooks will continue to lead Country brands KCYY (Y100) and KKYX.

“I couldn’t be more excited to have Rob step up and lead our stable of heritage radio brands in San Antonio,” said David Abel, VP/Market Manager of CMG San Antonio. “I have no doubt our team will continue delivering dominant ratings performances under his leadership.” Roberts commented, “Leading the programming team in San Antonio is an exciting challenge. The motivated people here make the job fun. Thanks to David Abel, Rob Babin, and Chris Eagan for the chance to grow inside CMG.” Commenting on the arrival of Calgaro, Roberts said, “I feel so comfortable handing the reins of KISS and KTKX to Joe. These heritage stations need leadership to grow even more, and he’s got the mind and willpower to make it happen.”

Calgaro (right) is a 30-year radio pro who most recently served as OM of Audacy Sacramento and PD of Mainstream Rock KRXQ (98 Rock) and Classic Rock KSEG (96.9 The Eagle), until August. Calgaro previously worked for Entercom Boston as OM of Sports-Talk WEEI and Adult Hits WBGB (Big 103). He also programmed the late, legendary WAAF/Boston until it signed off in February 2020. Earlier in his career Calgaro programmed WHQG/Milwaukee, WAPL & WZOR/Appleton-Green Bay, WI and WWCT/Peoria, IL.

“Joe Calgaro has had a long track record of programming successful rock brands and developing great on-air talent,” said Abel. “Joe is a great fit for what we were looking for in a programmer, and I have no doubt he will help our rock brands continue to attract large audiences going forward. He will be a fantastic addition to our talented programming team here in San Antonio.”

Calgaro remarked, “I am truly humbled and honored to join this incredible CMG team in San Antonio. The entire group is filled with successful, iconic brands — and I look forward to working with such a talented team to help continue that success. Thank you to the Cox Media Group team for not only providing this amazing opportunity, but for making me feel like a part of the CMG family since day one.”
