Crank It Up: WLS & WCFL Rewound

• The legendary music years of WLS and WCFL/Chicago will live again this Labor Day weekend, thanks to the efforts of Ted Gorden Smucker, Bill Shannon, Scott Childers and a host of other radio heroes, who went above and beyond yet again to bring you The Third Annual WLS/WCFL Rewound, running all weekend on RewoundRadio.com.

Featured on-air legends include Larry Lujack, John Records Landecker, Fred Winston, Bob Sirott, Chuck Buell, Kris Erik Stevens, Chuck Knapp, Bob Dearborn and many more. We are told that practically all the featured airchecks will be “fresh,” having not aired over previous Rewound weekends. This year is particularly significant as WLS celebrates its 100th anniversary, plus WCFL is being inducted into the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum’s Radio Station Hall of Fame in Joliet on Oct. 20.

Thanks to Tommy Edwards and Lisa Orkin, you will hear stand-alone episodes of Animal Stories and Chickenman peppered throughout the three-day holiday weekend. Other highlights include a WLS Music People special where Steve King memorializes Elvis in a show taped just a few days after his death. This will air at noon ET on Saturday, Aug. 31. On Sunday, Sept. 1 at noon ET, enjoy the 30-minute documentary, Pop Goes the Music, hosted by Dick Biondi, as he highlights the songs and artists of 1965.

Naturally, the weekend would not be complete without the presentation of the WLS Montage, sampling the music from 1955-1978, airing at noon ET on Labor Day, following the WLS countdown of the Top 16 Hits of 1978. And just for fun they have included a link to a jingle montage of the DJs of the past, assembled by Steve Brelsford.

Plan to join us Saturday morning, Aug. 31 at 6am ET/5am CT as we kick off the 2024 Edition of WLS/WCFL Rewound, exclusively on RewoundRadio.com. [Special thanks to Art Vuolo]
