Evans Named PD of WTMD/Baltimore
• Public service broadcaster Your Public Radio has promoted Carrie Evans to Program Director of Music Discovery station WTMD 89.7 FM/Baltimore. Evans has served as the interim PD since the sale of WTMD to Your Public Radio was finalized in November 2021. With this promotion, Evans becomes one of only a handful of female program directors at the more than 50 Triple A stations across the country.
“We could not have found a bigger fan of the format and champion for local Baltimore musicians and artists,” said LaFontaine E. Oliver, President of Your Public Radio. “Carrie has been a stabilizing force for the station during a protracted period of transition and is the right person to lead WTMD’s talented hosts and programming team to new heights. In keeping with WTMD’s mission to be more than a radio station, Evans is one of the primary faces of WTMD in the community; and she will lead efforts to create opportunities for audiences to deepen their connection to local music and the arts – online, on the air and in neighborhoods throughout Baltimore and Central Maryland.”
Prior to serving as interim PD, Evans was WTMD’s APD and afternoon drive host — a role she will retain. Evans was previously MD and midday host at Steve Kingston’s WRNR/Annapolis, MD.
One of Evans’ first priorities is to work closely with consultant Mike Henry at Paragon Media Strategies to target and focus the WTMD music playlist to super-serve listeners in the Greater Baltimore area.
