Executive Action At WBZ NewsRadio/Boston
• iHeartMedia’s legendary WBZ NewsRadio 1030)/Boston announced several changes to its leadership team: Director of Operations Bill Flaherty is elevated to Director of Programming & Operations, and Asst. News Director Jay Borselle will assume the mantle of News Director, both effective July 1, 2023.
Flaherty will succeed Rob Sanchez, current Program Director and VP of News, Talk & Sports, who will transition into an innovation-focused consultant role at the end of June. Pictured, (l-r): Sanchez, Flaherty and Borselle.
As Director of Programming, Flaherty will be responsible for overseeing the programming, on-air personalities, promotions and digital operations for WBZ NewsRadio, reporting to Dylan Sprague, SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Boston, who commented, “Rob’s vision has helped guide WBZ NewsRadio towards becoming a digitally-focused news organization. I’m glad that he will continue to be a part of our organization as he moves into the next part of his career.”
As News Director, Borselle will report to Flaherty and be responsible for all WBZ NewsRadio content and distribution. Sprague continued, “Bill’s experience paired with his shared vision of the future makes him the obvious choice to succeed Rob as Program Director. Jay is a consummate professional with a strong connection to the community, and we are thrilled to have him to lead our newsroom. I couldn’t be more excited about where WBZ NewsRadio is headed with Bill and Jay at the helm.”
