Executive Action: Robinson & Ray
• Congrats to veteran programmer and consultant Kevin Robinson, who has been elevated to Executive Director of listener-supported, non-profit 98.9 WYRZ/Brownsburg, IN, “The Voice of Hendricks County,” a teaching radio facility operated by the Hendricks County Educational Foundation. Robinson (left) will succeed current WYRZ Executive Director Shane Ray (right), who has led the station since its launch in 2015, and will now assume the role of Board President and remain with the station as an advisor and Sales Manager.
Ray says he’s proud of the work done by the staff and board to bring hometown radio back to Hendricks County, as he remarked, “From the very beginning, WYRZ’s mission has been to be a teaching radio station for high school and college students, and I feel we’ve lived up to that.”
Robinson, whose 40-year radio career has taken him to Chicago, Phoenix, St. Louis, Louisville, Buffalo, and Lansing, MI, has been a WYRZ board member for the past four years and was elevated to Board President two years ago. He also hosts The KROB Radio Show in afternoon drive on WYRZ.
“I’m honored and humbled to be selected by the Board of Directors of the Hendricks County Educational Media Corporation to continue the teaching mission Shane Ray has established at 98.9 WYRZ,” Robinson said. “Shane’s passion shines through in everything the station does. The station and its unique playlist make this facility that Shane built truly special among radio brands. We happen to be the only teaching facility in Indiana that does not charge fees to schools, students or volunteers to learn the great art of radio.” He added, “If you are an industry friend and would like to see our mission continue and grow, we’d be honored if you donated to our cause at WYRZ.org.”
Robinson’s firm, Robinson | Media, in partnership with the Audience Development Group, will continue to consult companies all over America. He can be contacted at krob@wyrz.org.
