Extra Helping Of Sunday Supper
• Fordham University’s 90.7 WFUV/New York has doubled John Platt‘s long-running folk show Sunday Supper to two hours, now running from 4-6pm ET, beginning this Sunday, Feb. 5. Platt inherits the 4pm hour vacated by Bob Sherman, who ended his beloved folk show Woody’s Children on January 29 after a remarkable 54-year run.
“I’m very excited to make the two-hour version of Sunday Supper a ‘Super Supper,’ says Platt. “I’ll be able to dig deeper into new artists and old faves across multiple genres, while continuing to honor the wonderful legacy of Woody’s Children.”
Platt, who began Sunday Supper as Sunday Breakfast in 1997 has been a respected champion of folk music — so much so that on Feb. 1 he was inducted into the Folk Alliance International Conference’s Folk DJ Hall of Fame. The conference continues through Sunday in Kansas City.
“John Platt’s passion, knowledge and commitment to folk music has been on display for decades, and helps explain why the community considers him a steward of the genre,” says Rich McLaughlin, PD of WFUV. “Adding a second hour to the show means no more rushing through our Sunday Supper!”
In addition to his longtime work at WFUV, where he retired from his full-time position as Communications Director in 2018, Platt began his career at WMMR/Philadelphia in 1969, programmed WXRT/Chicago and WRVR/New York, worked at WNEW and WNYC/New York, and produced national radio shows.
