Flinn Memphis Trades Up To 97.7

• Flinn Broadcasting used the eternally lucky day of Friday the 13th to super-size its Memphis Top 40 station B96.3 (WHBQ-HD2), by moving the format up to a stronger signal.

Here’s how (and why) it happened — B96.3 has been broadcasting on translator W242CF @ 96.3 for more than a year. However, Flinn also owns a translator W249BN @ 97.7 with a better market signal (plugged into the back of 1430 WOWW), which most recently was a Classic Hits format.

As OM Chris Taylor explains to RAMP, “We were seeing great growth with 96.3 and felt moving the format to 97.7 would give us more geography… Memphis needs a locally-programmed Top 40, so we are excited to bring ‘B97.7, #1 For New Music’ to the market.” Taylor says stay tuned, as a new format for 96.3 will be coming soon!
