• The Townsquare Media programming braintrust was very busy in Albany, NY yesterday, what with the debut of two new formats: WQBK flipped to Soft AC as 103.9 The Breeze, while WQBJ has relaunched as ALT 103.5.

“We are excited to launch 103.9 The Breeze,” said OM Steve Richards, who will serve as PD of The Breeze. “We know the station will be the perfect choice to relax to at work and anytime.” Keeping those “Breeze” analogies going, Townsquare Albany Market President Kevin Rich said, “103.9 The Breeze is blowing into town and playing a majority of music you can’t find on any other radio station in the Capital Region, truly making the station unique and special. It’s unlike anything the area has heard previously and we can’t wait for Capital Region listeners to tune in and make it their favorite!” As we speak 103.9 The Breeze is cruising through 10,000 songs commercial-free.

Meanwhile, across the hall, the Alternative format is back! ALT 103.5 signed back on the air at midnight Thursday. Richards said, “We are thrilled to have ALT back on the air playing great Alternative music for The Capital Region and Dave and Mahoney in the morning.” A clearly delighted Kevin Rich remarked, “We are delighted to relaunch ALT as ALT 103.5. Listeners will be rewarded for programming ALT 103.5 on their dial with the same great entertaining morning show and popular Alternative music that previously made the station successful.”

These launches end a simulcast that had been going on since 1994, we are told. The former Classic Rock format now resides on WQSH (Q105.7).
