Frito Circles Back Home To WTAW

Tucker “Frito” Young has returned to where it all began — Bryan Broadcasting in scenic Bryan-College Station, TX, where he was introduced Wednesday morning as the newest member of The Infomaniacs morning show on News-Talk WTAW 1620/94.5. Young will succeed market icon Scott DeLucia, who is retiring on June 5 after a remarkable 59-year career.

Young’s radio career began as a news intern on WTAW back in 2003. Two years later he crossed the hall to join the morning show on Top 40 sister KNDE (Candy 95), rising to OM/PD in 2008. Frito’s morning show co-host, Katy Dempsey, eventually earned Candy 95 PD stripes, and in early 2022 the duo was hired to do mornings on CMG Country KCYY (Y100)/San Antonio. That ride turned into a job offer to do mornings on Audacy Country KILT-FM (100.3 The Bull)/Houston in early 2025. Unfortunately, that gig ended in March of this year when they departed during a round of corporate restructuring, and Frito returned home to Bryan.

Frito made his his WTAW debut Wednesday morning during The Infomaniacs show, commenting, “I was excited by the opportunity, mostly because growing up in College Station and Bryan and around the area, if you listen to radio, you would listen to you [Scott] and Jay and Tom and everybody else. So this is kind of like being on the radio show of record for the Brazos Valley.”

RAMP later reached out to Young, who told us, “Taking over for Scott is a big honor. He’s been a family friend for as long as I can remember, and obviously I’ve always been passionate about WTAW in general. It was an extremely easy ‘yes,’ and it feels very good to be home.”
