Hill Reaches Radio Peak

• It’s long been a dream of many radio folks to someday own and operate their own radio station, and in the process, control their own destiny. That is the scenario now being experienced by veteran programmer and personality Danny Hill, who recently exited as PD of Alpha Media Rhythmic KLLY (Energy 95.3)/Bakersfield and, along with his wife, Kait, have launched Hill Broadcasting. Their debut project is the care and feeding of ’90s & ’00s-formatted KRWI (Rewind 98.1), a Class A station licensed to Wofford Heights, CA, about 50 miles northeast of Bakersfield.

Hill Broadcasting has LMA’d the station from owner Steve Rubin, and Danny and Kait are now running the station and doing the morning show together.

“It’s not every day you can purchase a radio station,” Hill tells RAMP. “This has been a dream of mine to not only own a radio station, but to also work with my wife. We have worked together in Hawaii and Kansas, and now we can run a station and do a show together!”

Hill famously spent five years as PD/morning talent at KLLY during its Hot AC Kelly 95.3 era under Buckley Broadcasting, right through the sale to Alpha Media and its 2015 format flip to Energy 95.3. After that he spent a year on Kauai as GM/OM/PD of HHawaii’s five-station cluster. Before returning to KLLY in April 2017, Hill and his family spent eight months in Kansas when he was Market Manager with KBUF Partnership, a division of Ingstad Family Media, overseeing eight stations in multiple Kansas markets.

The Danny & Kait morning show is now on the air at Rewind 98.1 and HHawaii Rhythmic KJMQ (Jamz 98.1)/Kauai and is also available for syndication. To hear a demo, email KaitHill@Rewind981.com.
