‘Howard & Jim In The Morning’

• It was a terrestrial/satellite crossover event of historic proportions on Tuesday, as broadcasting titans Howard Stern and Jim Kerr co-hosted a remarkable 47-minute conversation that was simulcast on Kerr’s radio home, iHeartMedia Classic Rock WAXQ (Q104.3)/New York, and on Stern’s Howard 101 channel on SiriusXM.

The event marked Stern’s first appearance back on terrestrial radio since making his industry-disrupting move to satellite radio in 2005, and he did it to honor one of his radio heroes, Jim Kerr, who all this week is celebrating his 50th anniversary on New York morning radio, now the longest-running morning radio personality in market history.

During the freewheeling conversation, Stern confessed that he has always been jealous of Kerr and his career. “You were always the guy that I listened to, which really blew my mind since I think we’re the same age,” Stern said. “I remember being in like college and high school [hearing Jim] and I go, ‘How is it this guy is on a major radio station and sounds like a professional DJ and I’m a schlub, I can’t even get a job in radio.'”

The guys also reminisced about the old days, their families, their childhoods, their radio starts, their long careers, and much more. The whole awesome event is posted here.
