Ignition… & Liftoff of The Mightier 1090!
• After a lengthy countdown, Baja-based XEPRS-AM (The All-New Mightier 1090) set to relaunch onto Southern California’s airwaves today, nearly 18 months after the original “Mighty 1090” went dark.
The 50,000-watt “Mightier 1090” has the ability to reach more than 24 million California residents from Baja to San Diego and up to Orange County, Los Angeles and the Central Coast with an all-star lineup that includes longtime San Diego sports-talk radio staple, Scott Kaplan, along with nationally-syndicated personalities Rich Eisen, Tony Bruno and Scott Ferrall. The station has been running a “History of 1090” audio loop until today’s launch, which is set for 9am PT with The Rich Eisen Show.
Back in April we first reported that Bill Hagen, the owner of Flagstaff, AZ-based Out The Window Advertising had inked a five-year lease for the broadcast rights for the powerful Baja California-based 1090 signal from its owner, Andres Bichara Assad of Interamericana de Radio in Rosarito, Mexico. “It’s taken a tireless amount of work from a number of great people to get us to this point,” said Hagen. “It has long been our goal to give 1090 AM back to the millions of listeners of Southern California that have missed it since it went off the air almost 18 months ago and we’re doing so as The Mightier 1090!”
Along with Rich Eisen, Scott Ferrall will host Ferrall’s Coast to Coast from 1-3pm, returning from 7-9 for his long-running Ferrall On the Bench. Tastefully sandwiched in between, in his familiar 3-7pm slot is Kaplan and Crew, hosted by Scott Kaplan, a San Diego radio staple for nearly 20 years and a longtime NFL sideline reporter for both CBS Sports and Westwood One Radio. From 9pm-midnight, Tony Bruno and Harry Mays take you Into The Night.
Hagen added, “Launching a radio station from scratch during a pandemic with virtually no live sports taking place has been a daunting task to say the least, but we made it, and I’m very proud of the product that we will be putting on the air.” For more information about The Mightier 1090, bookmark themightier1090.com.
