‘Into The Abyss With Class & Dignity’
• A major change is coming to morning radio in Phoenix, as Hubbard Classic Rock KSLX announced the impending finale of the popular, long-running Mark & NeanderPaul morning show on Friday, March 31, as Mark Devine officially retires from radio and co-host Paul “NeanderPaul” Marshall unplugs from mornings and moves to middays. The station will be unveiling its new morning show at some point soon.
RAMP reached out to David Moore, Operations Manager/Brand & Content Director for KSLX, KDKB & KAZG, who commented, “These guys did the work and the results show it. While I’m optimistic about the new show I cannot talk about yet, I’m going to miss Mark Devine. Not only did he do a great job as a morning talent, but he is also a decent human being. Going forward KSLX will have a stellar talent line-up with the new morning show, NeanderPaul on middays, Karen Dalessandro afternoons and Nights with Alice Cooper.”
Marshall and Devine are both longtime market mainstays who initially teamed up in mornings on KSLX in March 2015 — Marshall was the longtime PD/afternoon personality on Rock sister KDKB until September 2014, when the station flipped to ALT AZ 93-3, Arizona’s Alternative. A month later, he joined KSLX to do nights. Devine is probably best known for his 16-year run as co-host of the Tim & Mark Show on KDKB until 2005, followed by a stint in mornings on Bonneville’s former Adult Hits KPKX (98.7 The Peak) and a decade in real estate.
Marshall shared his warm feelings about his partnership — and friendship — with Devine in a lengthy and heartfelt Facebook post that concludes with this sneak preview at his new solo midday show: “It’s not going to be boring, or the usual ‘more music in the middays’ bullshit. We’re gonna have a *show.* You can expect me to be the same Radio-Clown I’ve always been. I expect to be able to have guests, games, jokes, and plenty of you — the listener, involved. And yeah… I have opinions. It’s your radio station. I just push the buttons.”
RAMP also caught up with Marshall, who told us, “I’m looking forward to sleeping in for the first time in eight years. Now, I get the sweet slot — in late… out early. Win-Win! Huge thanks to Hubbard Radio for allowing us to send this thing into the abyss with class & dignity. It’s great to work for a company that understands what this show means to Phoenix. It’s been a great run. We’ve had a great time, and Mark has earned every bit of this retirement. Long may he run!”
