Jay Hicks Named PD of WPGC/DC
• As first reported by RAMP on Tuesday, Entercom has formally announced that Jay Hicks is the new PD of Rhythmic WPGC/Washington. That position currently falls under the purview of Steve Davis, VP of Programming for Entercom DC, who in early August announced his impending departure, effective October 4 — the final day of his contract. Davis is returning to his longtime home in Richmond, VA, to be closer to his family — and his family business.
“From the beginning, we were seeking a creative visionary with an appreciation for WPGC’s rich history in the D.C. market,” said Phil Zachary, SVP/Market Manager, Entercom Washington. “Jay pays respect to the station’s past while clearly comprehending the present competitive landscape in one of America’s most spirited Urban radio battles. He’s ideally suited to lead our veteran air staff.”
Hicks commented, “I would like to thank Phil Zachary, [Entercom Urban Format Captain] Reggie Rouseand the entire Entercom team for allowing me the opportunity to lead such an iconic national brand as WPGC. I’m very grateful and honored, and I look forward to adding more value and growth to WPGC in the D.C. community.”
Hicks has served as Brand Manager at Townsquare Media Urban WBLK and Adult Hits WBUF (92.9 Jack FM)/Buffalo, NY since June 2017. He’s a Detroit native who previously spent 5 1/2 years as PD of Radio One Urban WGPR (Hot 107.5)/Detroit. Earlier in his career, while attending Michigan State University, Hicks went to work for MacDonald Broadcasting Urban WQHH (Power 96.5)/Lansing, MI, rising through the ranks from part-time to APD/MD and night jock to the PD chair.
