KHTX/Reno To Become WE FM Today
• Hey, look! Reno has a new radio station! Less than three days after Lotus Triple A KHTX (100.1 The X)/Reno, a fresh new station is about to take its rightful place in the market. Operations Manager Jave Patterson tells RAMP, “Thanks to the evolution of digital music servers, a new kind of radio station is debuting in Reno at 10am PST. Instead of solely focusing on a structured genre format, the new station at 100.1 will play a mix of genres from Pop and Rock to Country and Hip Hop. WE aren’t quite a ‘Jack,’ but also not as rigid as a ‘KISS.'”
Patterson continued, “We’ve encouraged feedback from the listening audience during our days of ‘cleansing’ since the Triple A format was pulled at 5:15 on Monday and most of the responses have been what WE expected: ‘WE want music that WE know. WE don’t want a ton of commercials. WE don’t need DJs that talk too much or try to be funny. WE want music that WE grew up with but WE also want to hear the best of the new music too.”
With the ball now neatly tee’d up, GM Mike Murray adds, “WE are excited to work with the listeners of Northern Nevada to create a station for everyone to enjoy — that’s why WE are calling it 100.1, WE FM.”
Listener feedback will be a driving force behind the evolution of the station in the weeks and months to come, and new slogan-appropriate new call letters KWEE will be installed as of Tuesday, October 5. Please make a note of it. Listen to the WE FM rollout at 10am PT/1pm ET at wearereno.com.
