Killabrew Named PD of WJJK & WNDX/Indy
• Cumulus Media welcomes veteran programmer Mike “Killabrew” Mondell as the new Program Director of Classic Hits WJJK and Mainstream Rock WNDX (93.9X)/Indianapolis, effective Monday, May 9.
Fortunately for both parties, Killabrew already knows the market — he notably spent three years in town as SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia’s Indianapolis group and PD of WFBQ (Q95) and WOLT (ALT 103.3) until Nov. 2020, when he was one of many downsized during another round of pandemic-related cutbacks. Before that he served as Director of Rock Programming for iHeart’s WWDC (DC101) & WBIG/Washington. Killabrew earlier programmed iHeartMedia’s KPTL (ALT 106.3) and Sports-Talk KXNO-AM/Des Moines, IA, preceded by a nine-year run with iHeartMedia Tampa Bay, where he programmed WXTB (98 Rock) from 2010-2012.
“WJJK is already a market-leading, ratings-winning and revenue-generating radio staple in this town and the recent uptick of ratings success for WNDX is exciting to see,” said Christopher “Boomer” Layfield, Operations Manager, Cumulus Indianapolis. “Installing an experienced and dynamic programming leader with Mike’s expertise is a huge win for these stations. He’s got an infectious passion for creating great radio and a clear strategy to expand our footprint in the social and digital spheres, while also elevating our NTR game, all for the benefit of our listeners and advertisers. It’s a thrill to add him to our programming roster.”
Killabrew commented, “I’m ecstatic to be joining the incredible team and exceptional line-up of powerful brands at Cumulus Indianapolis! A huge thanks to Chuck Fredrick, Boomer, Dave Milner, Doug Hamand, Troy Hanson, and Jon Laing for their passion, vision, and trust. I can’t wait to lead WJJK and WNDX for years to come.”
