Kimball Named PD Of Twin Cities’ Current

• Busy day in the hallways of Minnesota Public Radio Triple A KCMP (The Current)/Minneapolis-St. Paul, which announces a new Program Director, APD and Associate Producer. The action starts with the elevation of original Current staffer Lindsay Kimball to Program Director.  Kimball (left) will work closely with Jesse Wiza, who was promoted from interim to full-time APD in April. The Current has also hired Rachel Frances as Associate Producer for The Current Morning Show.

Kimball started her career as an intern at The Current shortly after the station’s launch in 2005, eventually ascending to APD. During this time she has served as a host, producer and manager and helped launch several key music streams, including Rock the Cradle, Radio Heartland and Local Current. She also helped develop the early foundation of The Current’s sound and served as the station’s APD before transitioning into a role leading the membership team at Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) in 2019. “I’m beyond excited to work with the amazing team at The Current again,” Kimball said. “Programming radio is my passion, and I look forward to continuing to strengthen this amazing service and music community partner.” Kimball succeeds Jim McGuinn, who exited earlier this year.

Jesse Wiza joined The Current in 2017 and has served as Music Assistant, Assistant Producer and Digital Producer prior to tackling her new role. She also has previous music industry experience working in radio promotions. “The Current means a lot to me and I’m grateful to continue to work alongside such a talented crew,” Wiza said. Rachel Frances previously managed her college radio station and has also worked as a producer at KBEA & KIIK in the Quad Cities, as well as Hubbard’s KTMY (MyTalk 107.1) and KSTP-AM (ESPN 1500) in the Twin Cities.

“We are thrilled to have all of these talented individuals on board,” said David Safar, Managing Director, The Current. “They each bring unique value to our brand that will help us continue to serve audiences across our region while furthering our mission.”  [Photo credit: Sara Fish for MPR]
