Kori McKay Named 2024 WBA-MIW Mentee
• The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA) and the Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Wisconsin (MIW) program have selected Kori McKay from NRG Media in Wausau-Stevens Point as their newest mentee.
McKay, known to her listeners as “Kori with a K,” has served as Program Director of Top 40 WHTQ (Hot 96.7)/Wausau-Stevens Point since 2019, and been the morning host since 2016. Before that, she hosted nights at WAZY/Lafayette, IN, and farm markets at KDSN/Denison, IA.
“Growing up I knew I wanted to make people smile,” McKay said. “I remember sitting in my car in college listening to the radio, looked right at the radio and said ‘I want to do that,’ got out of my car and starting Googling ‘radio schools!’ I came across Brown College in Minnesota… and the rest is history.”
Wisconsin was the second state to partner with MIW after the first partnership was launched in 2022 with the Minnesota Broadcasters Association. This state-focused program pairs mentees aiming to advance into higher management roles within radio broadcasting with established female mentors who provide ongoing coaching and guidance to their mentee to grow their essential skills and techniques, making them a more effective leader in radio. “Partnering with the WBA is so productive and such a joy,” said MIW Board President Ruth Presslaff. “We’re excited for Kori and look forward to another great year working together.” WBA President & CEO Michelle Vetterkind noted, “We continue to have intense interest in this mentorship. Kori was selected from a list of fantastic candidates. It bodes well for the future of broadcasting.”
McKay added, “The next step in my career is to inspire, empower, and uplift the next generation of broadcasters. It’s an ever-changing industry that I look forward to seeing where it goes. When you find your ‘career’ and your home that you get to make your own, everything just falls into place.”
• MIW is a (501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of female leadership in radio broadcasting, and hopes to eventually expand this program to all 50 states. For more information on MIW Mentoring Programs, visit radiomiw.com.
