Lawrence Lands At New South Radio
• Well, that was fast — a week after leaving his position as VP of Programming for Saga Communications, Bob Lawrence has been snapped up by New South Radio as GM/Market Manager for the company’s six-station cluster in Jackson, MS, as Gwen Rakestraw retires and steps away after two decades.
Lawrence commented, “It was truly a fortuitous turn of events for all parties, and it just all came together extremely quickly while here on vacation in Mississippi.” He added, “I’m extremely grateful to the Holladays for this amazing opportunity to help lead all the terrific people at these great stations. I’m just thrilled!”
Clay Holladay of New South said, “We are very excited that Bob will be joining our team. He brings a great deal of knowledge with him, and we feel he will move us to a higher level.” Lawrence makes the move from Michigan to Mississippi effective Monday, July 27.
Lawrence joined Saga in April 2015, succeeding Steve Goldstein, after 15 years of running his own company, Pinnacle Media Worldwide. Lawrence’s earlier radio experience includes a stint as OM/PD of Clear Channel’s KIOI (K101)/San Francisco, PD of CBS Radio’s KHTR/St. Louis and KITS/San Francisco during its “Hot Hits” run, and he was also one of the original Hot Hits jocks at the late 98WCAU/Philadelphia back in the day. Lawrence also notably spent over a decade as SVP of Operations with Broadcast Architecture.
