Long Named PD of KHFI/Austin

• iHeartMedia has named Rex Long as Program Director of Top 40 KHFI (96.7 Kiss FM)/Austin. Long earns the transfer to Austin from iHeartMedia Salt Lake City, where he has worked since late last year after leaving his previous PD post at Cumulus Top 40 KKMG (98.9 Magic FM)/Colorado Springs, CO.

Long, who will also oversee ALT 97.5 (KASE HD-2) reports to Matt Martin, Region President for iHeartMedia Austin/San Antonio, who said, “Rex’s abundance of energy, his creative ideas to connect with listeners, combined with his strategic vision to be a fabric of Austin’s culture make Rex a perfect fit to continue building the Kiss brand. We are very excited to welcome Rex to ATX.”

Long started his fulltime radio career in August 2005 doing nights at Cumulus Top 40 KCDD/Abilene, TX, followed by a two-year stint in nights at Top 40 sister WHHY (Y102)/Montgomery, AL. From June 2009 until June 2010 Long worked in Dallas, doing part-time/swing at KDBN & KLIF-FM, followed by an eight-month stint across the street at KHKS (106.1 Kiss FM). In June 2010, Long returned to KCDD/Abilene, this time as PD, followed a year later by a return to WHHY, where he spent the next six years as PD, until his move to KKMG in June 2017. Long began his radio career with Canton Broadcasters in Canton, TX.

“The energy and team at iHeartMedia Austin is one that I am beyond grateful to be a part of,” said Long. “Being able to come back home to Texas and work alongside this terrific team, The Billy The Kidd Show and to help grow a heritage brand like Kiss is my childhood dream. Thank you iHeartMedia for giving me the opportunity.”
