Weatherly Leaves Entercom; L.A. Programming Moves

RAMP has learned that Kevin Weatherly (left), the longest-serving PD of The World Famous KROQ/Los Angeles, has resigned his position as SVP of Programming for Entercom and PD of KROQ, Top 40 KAMP (97.1 AMP Radio) and Adult Hits KCBS-FM (93.1 Jack FM) and is reportedly headed to Spotify.

Entercom concurrently announced a change in the programming leadership structure for the Los Angeles market, starting with the news that SVP of Programming Mike Kaplan (right) will assume bicoastal Brand Manager responsibilities for KROQ addition to his current roles as Entercom Alternative Format Captain and Brand Manager for WNYL (ALT 92.3)/New York.

And there’s more — Chris Ebbott (left), Brand Manager of Classic Hits KRTH (K-Earth 101) and AMP Radio MD Yesi Ortiz (center) will jointly oversee AMP Radio programming while the search for a permanent PD is launched, and Ralph Stewart (right), Brand Manager of Urban AC KTWV (94.7 The Wave) and OM of Jack FM since 2010 will formally assume Brand Manager duties for Jack FM.

“Mike’s name is synonymous with Alternative music and I’m delighted to welcome him back to Los Angeles,” said Jeff Federman, Regional President, Entercom. “Along with Ralph, Chris and Yesi, this dynamic team will usher in the future of our brands in this important music market. I’d like to thank Kevin for his years of dedicated contributions to our premier collection of brands and our company. He has certainly made his mark here and we wish him the absolute best in his new role.”

Kaplan returned to Entercom as SVP of Programming and Brand Manager for ALT 92.3 in May 2018 and was named Alternative Format Captain in 2019. Before that he programmed iHeartMedia Alternative KYSR (ALT 98.7)/Los Angeles. During his first stint with Entercom Kaplan programmed KNDD (107.7 The End)/Seattle, WEZB (B97) & WKBU (The Bayou)/New Orleans and KRBZ (96.5 The Buzz)/Kansas City. Earlier in his career Kaplan was APD of Top 40 WPST/Trenton, and PD of Hot AC WJLK and Top 40 WBBO/Monmouth-Ocean, NJ. Commenting on his newly expanded role, Kaplan said, “I’m thrilled to expand my role to lead programming efforts for the World Famous KROQ, a fixture and tastemaker in the Los Angeles music scene. I look forward to working alongside Jeff and the team to continue delivering exceptional content and unforgettable live events for our loyal listeners.”
