Lou Merloni Leaving WEEI/Boston

• Lou Merloni, who has been full-time weekday host on Audacy Sports-Talk WEEI/Boston for the past 11 years, is being let go from his afternoon drive show and his co-host Christian Fauria will move to middays. That’s the word from Boston.com, which adds: “It’s unclear right now what the station’s long-term plans are for afternoon drive. Meghan Ottolini, who joined Merloni and Fauria on the program in May, is expected to remain on the program.”

Merloni publicly announced he was leaving the show late Sunday in a tweet that reads: “I’ll be back in studio tomorrow. Can’t wait to react to the week the Sox had, get you ready for Pats/Cards and talk about me leaving the show @MFMonWEEI. See ya at 2!!”

Boston.com’s coverage notes that Merloni’s contract expires at the end of the year and that he was informed of the station’s plans early last week. The story also speculates that Merloni, a former Red Sox infielder will possibly contribute to WEEI’s Red Sox game coverage.

Christian Arcand, who joined the show as a producer and fill-in host in November, weeks after he was downsized from Beasley rival WBZ-FM (98.5 The Sports Hub), sat in for Merloni for most of last week.
