Marino Has SVPP Upgrade Installed

• Congrats are in order for Chris Marino, longtime VP of Programming for iHeartMedia’s Hudson Valley, NY group, who has been elevated to Area SVP of Programming, overseeing Albany and Poughkeepsie, NY and Sussex, NJ.

The news was delivered to the staff in a memo from Howard Greiner, Area President of iHeartMedia Markets Group, who noted, “Chris has over 30 years in the radio business, the last ten years as VP of Programming for the Hudson Valley. Chris’s tour has taken him to Miami, Philly, Hartford and NYC where he worked with Scott Shannon at WPLJ. He’s known as a great collaborator and programmer and his energy for the business is engaging.”

Marino has been in the market since 2006, when he was hired to do mornings on Pamal Top 40 WSPK (K104). He crossed the street to Clear Channel in Oct. 2009, joining Top 40 rival WPKF (96.1 Kiss FM) as APD/MD/afternoons, and was upped to PD in Jan. 2010. He was upped to OM of the 10-station Hudson Valley group in Sept. 2012, and just kept growing from there. Along with his newly enhanced duties, Marino will remain based in Poughkeepsie, but will make regular market visits to Albany and Sussex. Reach out and say hello at ChrisMarino@iHeartmedia.com.

Marino succeeds “Dr.” John Cooper (left), a member of the New York State Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame, who late last year expressed his desire to dial back his SVPP duties and transitioned into the PD post for Classic Rock WPYX (PYX106) and Classic Hits WTRY (98.3 TRY)/Albany, NY.

Cooper, who boasts nearly half a century of continuous broadcasting in New York State, continues to anchor the midday show on PYX106, where he recently celebrated his 35th anniversary.

Cooper will also remain on air with iHeart’s National Format Center and Custom Ops and can be contacted at JCooper@iHeartmedia.com.
