Palm Springs Now Extra Sunny

Brad Fuhr‘s KGAY Radio begins its eighth year serving Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley, and the greater LGBTQ+ community with a new, stronger frequency — as of New Year’s Day, the station officially moves from 106.5 to 103.1, swapping dial positions with the former MeTV FM, which flips to AC and rebrands as Sunny 106.5.

“KGAY has been one of the most successful low power translators in the country at 106.5,” said Fuhr, the station’s owner and operator. “The move to 103.1 allows for increased coverage throughout the valley and upgrade to an HD digital signal.” He added, “KGAY owes its remarkable success to our extraordinarily loyal audience, advertisers and community partners. As KGAY proudly steps into its eighth year, our new stronger FM signal will allow us to continue to champion the Coachella Valley’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community with the music, voices and spirit that have made KGAY a local favorite from the very beginning.”

Longtime KGAY personalities John Taylor and Chris Shebel continue in their morning and afternoon drive slots, respectively.

Commenting on MeTV FM changing format, Fuhr said, “We know the station was loved by many, but we saw an opportunity to bring music to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley that hasn’t been heard on radio dials in some time. Hard as it is to believe, the music that played on the radio in the ’90s and ’00s is now a quarter century old. So, we’re bringing that music back to listeners who are now in their 40’s and 50’s. Our area businesses want to reach people who grew up with that music. Sunny 106.5 will be a great way to reach this important demographic.”

EJ Tyler will program Sunny 106.5 and host mornings, while Patrick Evans will bring his show to middays on Sunny 106.5 and continue to do his NewsChannel 3 First Alert Weather forecasts. Fuhr added, “We are still very much committed to sponsoring and promoting local charities and causes. We look forward to being even more involved in the community.”

KGAY will continue to stream worldwide at KGAYPalmSprings.com, and Sunny 106.5 is now streaming at 1065Sunny.com.
