Remembering Mimi Griswold

• And the gut punches continue… we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Syracuse radio legend Mimi Griswold, a fixture on Galaxy Media Classic Rock WTKW (TK99) for the better part of three decades, and former VP of Programming until her retirement in 2020, died Thursday, April 4. She was 67.

A beautiful tribute to Mimi, whose given first name was Mary, posted on TK99’s Facebook page, reads, in part, “She was a creative genius. She was kind. She was tough. She was fierce. Most of all, she was our friend.”

“To those of you that knew her as the ‘voice on the radio,’ her love of the music was obvious. To those of us that knew her off the radio, her love of her family was the most important thing in her life. She had two remarkable sons, three grandchildren, one-daughter-in-law and her husband of 40+ years, all of whom she adored. Bob and Mimi had a love story for the ages. It became even more apparent in her final years. Even when her health began to fail her, Bob never did.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Bob, her ‘boys’ and ‘the grands’ and her family — and to you, her radio family. She loved you as much as you loved her. Mimi was one of a kind. Her legend will live on. — With love & admiration, The staffs of TK99 & Galaxy Media.”

• RAMP reached out to Ed Levine, Pres. & CEO of Galaxy Media, who told us, “Mimi still made periodic cameo appearances on her Blue Moon Cafe Sunday morning ‘acoustic and eclectic’ show. She curated the music every week till she passed.”

Levine continued, “We worked shoulder-to-shoulder in building the Company, beginning in 1991. Simply put, there would have been no Galaxy without her. Mimi’s impact on the marketplace can be seen in the literally hundreds of listeners that never actually met her but felt she was a member of the family, as you can see on the TK Facebook page and other places by their comments. We all were so fortunate to have her in our lives!”

Mimi is survived by her husband, Bob; sons, Mike (wife, Heather) and Casey; grandchildren, Davis, Reed, and Violet; and brother, Rick Savignano.

• TK99 reminds us: “This Sunday is a very special Blue Moon Cafe as we pay tribute to the show’s founder, and our friend, Mimi Griswold. And we’ll extend the show through the entire day. It will be a ‘Blue Moon Sunday.’ Join us as we celebrate Mimi.”
