Rob Archer Packing For The ATL

• We are thrilled for veteran Los Angeles news professional Rob Archer, who announced he’s headed to Atlanta, hired by his former KNX/Los Angeles boss Ken Charles as full-time anchor/reporter at Cox Media Group’s venerable 95.5 WSB, starting Monday, Sept. 14. As Charles notes, Archer will be working the 3-11pm shift weekdays. “In addition to in-house reporting and fill-in anchoring, he will serve as the evening editor.”

Archer has spent the past three decades in Los Angeles, most recently a decade of service with Audacy’s KNX until he was downsized during June 2025 round of restructuring. His previous LA stops include iHeartMedia’s KFI 640 and KBIG (104.3 MYfm).

Archer broke his big news in a Substack post that reads, in part, “I applied for as many radio jobs as I could. But given the state of an industry that was letting far more people go than it was taking on, I didn’t have a lot of hope… I awoke one morning to a message about an opportunity — and I grabbed it. I have accepted an anchor/reporter position at 95.5 WSB Atlanta. I’ll be working with my old KNX boss, Ken Charles, beginning next month.”

RAMP caught up with Charles, Director of Operations, Branding & Programming for 95.5 WSB, who told us, “Rob did a great job at KNX when he worked there. His commitment to local journalism and talents as an anchor/reporter make him a great fit for WSB.”

Archer added, “Whenever I’ve been laid off from somewhere, I’ve told people, ‘The future, as they say, is wide open.’ It’s a way of saying that the routine has been disrupted and life is about to be different. Well, now I can say that about starting something new. I’m getting another ride on the radio machine — the business that’s been a lifelong love. The future, truly, is wide open.”
