Rude Awakening For Radio One Detroit
• Radio One Detroit has located its new Operations Manager, and the cool part is, he was already an employee in good standing — the company has tapped “Yonni Rude” O’Donoghue to assume operational command of Urban WGPR (Hot 107.5), Urban AC WDMK (105.9 Kiss FM) the Inspirational Praise Network WPZR (Praise 93.5/98.3/99.9)/Detroit, effective Monday, Feb. 25. Rude/O’Donoghue (left) earns the major market transfer from the OM post at the company’s Richmond, VA cluster, and upon his arrival he will work closely with current APDs Randi Myles, Fawn Conley and Kenny Valentino.
Kathy Stinehour, VP/GM of Radio One Detroit, said, “Yonni brings excellent experience to this job and he is a very strong tactical thinker, a quality we definitely need to help us grow our brands. We are thrilled to have him join our Detroit team.”
Prior landing in Richmond in October 2016, Rude spent 16 years with Cumulus/Citadel in Charleston, SC, the final three years as PD of Top 40 WSSX (95SX). From 2011-2013 he was APD/interim OM across the hall at Urban WWWZ (Z93 Jamz) and Urban AC WMGL (Magic 107.3), and from 2000-2011 he was MD/afternoon talent on WWWZ under Citadel. Earlier in his career O’Donoghue was MD/afternoon talent on Beasley Urban WZFX (Foxy 99)/Fayetteville, NC.
O’Donoghue commented, “I’ve had an amazing run with Marsha Landess, Jeff Wilson, Hurricane Dave and the Radio One Richmond team. I’m excited to join Radio One Detroit and look forward to working closely with Colby Colb, Kathy Stinehour and Deon Levingston and leading this great team to new heights.” Rude succeeds Jowcol “Boogie D” Dolby, who exited in January.
