Schemmel Returns To Rockies Radio
• iHeartMedia Denver announced that, after a two-year hiatus, Jerry Schemmel has returned to the KOA Colorado Rockies Radio Network for his 11th season, rejoining Jack Corrigan for all 162 Colorado Rockies games. Corrigan is entering his 20th season broadcasting games for the Rockies and his 37th overall.
“I am elated to be coming back to the KOA Colorado Rockies Radio Network booth,” said Schemmel, who was one of many iHeart employees who were downsized during a wave of COVID-related cutbacks in early 2020. “I couldn’t be happier to be working with Jack Corrigan and Producer Jesse Thomas. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get back at it.”
No less thrilled about Schemmel’s return is Brenda Egger, President of iHeartMedia’s Denver Region, who said, “We are delighted to welcome Jerry back to KOA’s Colorado Rockies broadcasts. Jerry’s voice is synonymous with sports in Colorado, and it’s an honor to have him call Rockies’ games alongside Jack Corrigan.”
In addition to the Rockies, Schemmel has spent 18 years as the play-by-play announcer of the Denver Nuggets. He most recently served as the radio voice for the University of Northern Colorado Football and Basketball. Schemmel also hosts and produces Amazing Americans, a nationally-syndicated weekend radio show.
Schemmel’s return after two seasons means iHeartMedia Denver Sports Director Mike Rice will step down from his Rockies’ duties. According to The Denver Post, Rice is not vaccinated for COVID-19, and for the first time since 2020, the Rockies’ radio broadcasters will once again be traveling for road games.
