Scott Childers: Free Agent

Scott Childers, a 20-year veteran of Alpha Media’s suburban Chicago group has exited as Chief Engineer and on-air talent at WERV (95.9 The River)/Aurora, and WSSR (Star 96.7) & 1340 WJOL/Joliet, due to a corporate realignment. Childers was responsible for remote equipment, FCC compliance and general maintenance and upkeep at the company’s two studios in Aurora and Joliet, and five transmitting facilities. He also aided his engineering counterpart responsible for five additional Alpha Media stations in the north and northwest suburbs.

Since joining WERV in 2004, Childers has held positions of on-air talent and head of programming for 95.9 The River and Star 96.7. He also served as Imaging Director, Public Affairs Coordinator, webmaster and interactive graphic designer, traffic reporter and the “voice” of WERV and WJOL. Over the past four and a half years, he was an SBE certified Chief Engineer and was instrumental in enabling staffers from all five stations to broadcast at home during the pandemic.

Looking back on his two-decade run at this group of stations, Childers was quick to praise his co-workers, saying, “They truly are the best, most hard-working crew. Each and every one of them I consider family and will miss interacting with them on a daily basis.” The good news is, Childers will continue to be the imaging voice for 95.9 The River and several other Alpha Media stations.

A Chicago radio historian and committeeman for the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum, he Childers has spent his entire 37-year broadcast career in the Chicagoland area, and he hopes to continue in this community, be it on-air, engineering or some other capacity. He can be reached at scottchildersradio@gmail.com, and his audio is posted at scottchilders.com/aircheck.
