Shores Passes PD Reins; Still Gets Up Early

• It’s the end of one era — and the beginning of a new one — at Cumulus Country WKKO (K100)/Toledo, OH, as it was announced that, after a remarkable 43 years with the station — the last 33 as Program Director, market legend Gary Shores is passing the PD baton over to Jerry Mac on June 11 but will remain firmly in place as host of the K100 morning show.

Mac (right), an Ohio native, is currently Operations Manager of Community Broadcasters’ radio group in Elmira, NY and PD of Country WPGI (100.9 The Wolf). Before landing in Elmira in January 2015 Mac was with Saga’s Asheville Radio Group in Asheville, NC. He previously worked for KZPK/St. Cloud, MN, and spent quality time in several Ohio markets, including Cleveland, WHBC-FM (Mix 94.1)/Canton, OH and Clear Channel in Youngstown. He has also worked at WZPT (Star 100.7)/Pittsburgh and was OM for the former NextMedia cluster in Wilmington, NC.

Andy Stuart, RVP/Market Manager of Cumulus Toledo, OH-Monroe, MI, said, “We celebrate and honor Gary Shore’s unprecedented and highly successful run as K100 Program Director. Gary has been an essential part of the station’s continued growth and popularity, and we are deeply grateful for his dedication and contributions over the past 43 years and counting. We are thrilled Gary will stay on as host of K100 Mornings!”

Shores remarked, “It’s bittersweet for me to pass the keys to a new PD, but I feel it’s time. Jerry will do a great job! He’s coming to one of the most successful Country stations in the Midwest, at No. 1 for over 20 years. Thanks to the awesome listeners and air-staff for that. Not only is Jerry joining a great air staff, but a great management team, and great corporate support, too. Being from Ohio, I’m sure Jerry will feel right at home here at K100. Welcome!”

Mac commented, “I’m so honored to join the Cumulus-Toledo team and to help lead K100 to continued success. Gary has done such an amazing job for so many years, and I’m excited that he will still be a part of the team. I know I can learn a lot from him! I’m thrilled that Andy and Bill have entrusted me with this amazing opportunity. I also thank Charlie Cook, Doug Hamand, Mike McVay, and Cumulus Youngstown VP/Market Manager Bill Kelly for their assistance and support. I look forward to coming back to Ohio and to working with the talented Cumulus-Toledo team for years to come. As Keith Urban says, ‘I’m Coming Home!'”
