Shotgun Tom Wrote The Book On Radio
• Legendary air personality Shotgun Tom Kelly, who has regaled us for years with stories from his long and fascinating career, has now compiled these highlights into a new 264-page book, titled All I Wanna Do is Play the Hits.
As you know, Shotgun Tom has been an on-air fixture in San Diego since 1970 when he debuted on KGB-AM, before going on to further success in the market at KCBQ-AM, KFMB-FM (B100), and KFMB-AM, later embarking a 20-year run on KRTH (K-Earth 101)/Los Angeles prior to his current home on SiriusXM’s ’60s on 6.
All I Wanna Do is Play the Hits includes stories about Shotgun Tom’s years with Casey Kasem and Jerry Lewis on the MDA Telethons, receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (when Stevie Wonder spoke on his behalf!), and his children’s TV show that won two Emmy Awards.
What makes this book truly unique is the inclusion of over 25 QR codes, which allow readers to see and hear many of the highlights of his amazing career, including (what is considered) to be the first video aircheck of Tom at B100 in 1976, captured on glorious 8mm film!
All I Wanna Do is Play the Hits has been endorsed by Lou Simon, who hired Kelly at SiriusXM in 2018; Dan Mason, former President of CBS Radio; Pat Duffy, former GM of K-Earth 101, and iconic voice talent Charlie Van Dyke.
All this excitement leads us back to where it all began — sunny San Diego, and Morning Show Boot Camp, when Shotgun Tom will appear — IN PERSON — on Thursday, Aug. 8 — his birthday — to sign copies of his book in the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel.
All I Wanna Do is Play the Hits is available on Amazon and is a must-read for anyone who loves great radio!
