Silverman Named PD Of KYW/Philadelphia
• Entercom All-News outlet KYW-AM (NewsRadio 1060)/Philadelphia has appointed Alex Silverman as its new Program Director, effective September 24. Silverman earns the transfer and upgrade from his current position as Assistant Director of News and Programming for sister WCBS-AM (Newsradio 880)/New York. He succeeds Steve Butler, who earlier this year announced his impending departure as KYW Director of News and Programming and Entercom News format Captain.
“We are thrilled to welcome Alex to the KYW Newsradio family,” said David Yadgaroff, SVP/Market Manager, Entercom Philadelphia. “He’s a great fit to lead this iconic Philadelphia brand into an exciting next chapter.” Silverman commented, “KYW Newsradio is the beating heart of Philadelphia. I’m incredibly excited and honored to lead the top-notch team of news professionals who make it vital, both now and into the future.”
Silverman joined WCBS Newsradio 880 as an anchor in 2011 and has since helped lead the station’s coverage of major news events in New York and around the country. He received a 2018 National Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of the transportation crisis in New York, and recently helped guide WCBS through a modern refresh and reimage of its iconic Newsradio brand. Silverman is currently the Industry Representative to the Board of Directors for Syracuse University’s well known student-run radio station, WJPZ (Z89), providing operational, financial and technical oversight. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Fordham University, where he designed a course titled “Social Media for Journalists.”
