Simpson Joins Capitol Broadcasting Raleigh
• Veteran programmer and marketing maven Sammy Simpson is returning home to North Carolina, hired by Capitol Broadcasting as Brand/Content Manager for the company’s Raleigh radio properties — Hot AC WRAL (Mix 101.5), ESPN affiliate WCMC (99.9 The Fan), Sports-Talk The Buzz (WCMC-HD2), WDNC-AM (620 The Ticket), Triple A WCLY-AM 1550/95.7 (That Station), and Contemporary Christian WRAL-HD2 (Cornerstone Radio), effective Tuesday, Sept. 8. He will report to Capitol VP of Radio Brian Maloney.
As Simpson stated in a joyful Facebook post, this gig is the full-circle culmination of his original dream “of just being on the radio that began while growing up in Graham, NC, and my first on-air job was there on WGLH in Mebane starting on August 6, 1986 — 34 years ago this week!” He added, “How fortunate and grateful I am to make a return home to North Carolina, my roots, and the industry that has been the greatest passion of my life since being 14 years old.”
Since that very first NC gig, Simpson has gone on to work for Z100/New York and the late, great, KSWD (100.3 The Sound)/Los Angeles; he also programmed the former WWZZ (Z104)/Washington, did National Promotions for Bonneville, worked for The New York Daily News, and was a New Media consultant. Simpson can be congratulated at dcsammy@hotmail.com.
