SiriusXM Undergoes Further Shrinkage
• AdWeek reports SiriusXM made more staff cuts on Monday, according to a person familiar with the matter. The actual number of employees adversely affected wasn’t disclosed.
According to a source, the layoffs impacted SXM’s operations department, primarily the product and technology group, and are part of SiriusXM’s new strategic focus, announced late last year as the company continues to adjust its workforce based on the needs of the organization.
This latest round of layoffs comes after SiriusXM announced in January that it was eliminating 160 jobs — about 3% of its workforce. At the time, CEO Jennifer Witz noted in a staff memo, “To continue on our path to future subscriber growth and sustain our company’s success as the competitive landscape evolves, it’s imperative that we become even more efficient, agile, and flexible. Therefore, today we are making several organizational changes, including the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles, which will allow us to move faster and collaborate more effectively in support of our long-term objectives.”
SiriusXM has undergone numerous changes over the last few months. This most recent round of layoffs comes about a week after the company named Scott Walker as its new Chief Advertising Revenue Officer, succeeding John Trimble, who is retiring after 16 years with the company.
