Skywalker Pays It Forward
• In the hopes of generating future similar acts of charity, we wanted to share this awesome gesture made by Skywalker, longtime APD/afternoon drive talent at Pamal Top 40 WSPK (K104.7)/Hudson Valley, NY, who graciously donated a scholarship to the college program that launched his successful broadcasting career, Suffolk Community College in New York.
“In this time of evolving technology in our business I wanted do what I can to encourage the talent farm,” Skywalker tells RAMP. “College radio is one of those places. Real-life human talent!” In a further example of giving back to the industry, Skywalker is also an adjunct instructor at Orange Community College, where he teaches a radio broadcasting course.
“Being an APD and loving this radio business so much I am keenly aware that talent is the difference-maker,” he said. “I know the program that I donated to at Suffolk is an excellent program that has produced many talented radio pros. I’m lucky to have has some measure of success in my career and this is a way to pay if forward and hopefully encourage other broadcasters to do the same.”
