Steele Absorbs WABD/Mobile PD Stripes
• Jimmy Steele has assumed the programming reins at Cumulus Top 40 WABD/Mobile, AL. He will continue in his current roles as OM of the cluster, WABD midday personality and PD of News-Talk WXQW-AM. He succeeds Sid Kelly, who was recently named PD of Top 40 sister WYRG (Energy 93.9)/Indianapolis.
Don Boyd, VP/Market Manager of Cumulus Media Mobile, said, “I’m very happy to see Sid Kelly grow within the Cumulus family as he takes on a new challenge in Indianapolis. We are fortunate to have deep talent here at Cumulus Mobile with one of the country’s top CHR programmers, Jimmy Steele, already in the building. I could not be more excited for the future of WABD under Jimmy’s direct leadership as he continues to evolve this legendary radio station.”
Steele (pictured) is a 30-year radio pro who joined Cumulus Mobile last June, after a stint as PD/morning host of iHeartMedia Hot AC WRFY (Y102) and WRAW-AM/FM (Rumba 92.3/1340)/Reading, PA. Before that he was SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia’s six-station group in Salisbury-Ocean City, MD and Director of Operations/Brand Manager for Saga Communications in Columbus, OH. Earlier in his career Steele was OM of Clear Channel/iHeartMedia’s San Diego group; RVPP for the company’s Columbus, OH and Central Ohio regional markets and PD of WNCI. He also programmed WRVW (107.5 The River)/Nashville.
Steele commented, “I’m so proud of the growth we’ve seen on WABD over the past year under Sid Kelly’s leadership. I’m pleased to see Sid grow his career within Cumulus and am excited to roll up my sleeves and splash back into my CHR roots. It’s an honor to be able to come to work each day and serve our talented Cumulus Mobile team as a partner to Don Boyd and collaborate with the likes of corporate programmers Doug Hamand and Mike McVay. They are very supportive and for that, I am grateful.”
