Steve Smith Resigns From CMG

RAMP has confirmed that veteran programmer and consultant Steve Smith has resigned as VP of Programming for Cox Media Group after a decade of service.

“It’s hard to leave a family as loved and cherished as much as my family at Cox Media Group… but I felt, on both a personal and career level, that it was time to move on,” Smith told RAMP. “I want thank Rob Babin for all his support, and wish everyone CMG all the success in the world.”

Smith was initially hired by CMG as Director of Radio programming in August 2011, after operating his consultancy, Steve Smith Radio & Ratings for nearly two decades. Smith’s lengthy radio career also includes a stint as VP of Programming for Emmis from 1993-2001, where he oversaw WQHT (Hot 97) & WRKS/New York and KPWR (Power 106)/Los Angeles. He later served as SVP of Programming for AMFM and Clear Channel. And let’s not forget that from 1990-93 Smith famously programmed KKFR (Power 92)/Phoenix to No. 1 in the market.

Looking ahead, Smith can be reached at 303-386-2660 or Steve@SteveSmithRadio.com.
