Tarrants Joins Townsquare Kalamazoo

• Michigan radio pro Jerry “JT” Tarrants has arrived at his new gig — yes, it’s in Michigan — Tarrants has been hired by Townsquare Media as Director of Content for the five-station group and Brand Manager of Classic Rock WRKR (Rock 107.7) and morning co-host with Stefani Bishop. He succeeds Mike McKelly, who recently announced his retirement.

Tarrants (left) spent the past seven years with Beasley Media Detroit as PD of Classic Rock WCSX and Active Rock WRIF, rising to OM before departing in July.

This new gig marks a return to the Townsquare family for Tarrants, who previously spent eight years with Townsquare’s five-station cluster in Grand Rapids, MI, rising to OM. Earlier in his career Tarrants programmed Cumulus Rock WKQZ (Z93) and Classic Rock simulcast WILZ/WYLZ (Wheelz 104.5/100.9)/Saginaw, MI. He also worked at WIOG/Saginaw, MI, WWBN/Flint, MI and WWGZ/Lapeer, MI.

“JT’s skills in creating strong listener-driven experiences, his leadership, and his knowledge of rock music are second to none,” remarked Market President Kate Morton. “He’s best-in-class talent and I’m thrilled to work with him again as he’ll bring passion to the cluster and create great local content for our digital platforms.” Tarrants said, “I’m so stoked to be back working with all of my good friends at Townsquare Media again! The fact that I get to lead more legendary radio stations in West Michigan is truly a blessing! Special thanks to one of the best in the industry, market leader Kate Morton for giving me the opportunity to carry on the continued success that she and her team have built into WRKR and the other stations in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. I also want to extend much appreciation to the Townsquare Programming and Management team at HQ: Kurt Johnson, Todd Lawley, Erik Hellum and Bill Wilson — so glad to be back with you guys.” Hit up JT with your congrats at jerry.tarrants@townsquaremedia.com.
