Tear Joins Pandora/SiriusXM As VP
• RAMP has confirmed that veteran programmer Alex Tear has joined Pandora and SiriusXM as VP of Music Curation & Programming. The new gig comes with a relocation to New York City for Tear, who spent the past 11 years in sunny Miami, most recently as SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia South Florida and PD of WHYI (Y100).
The announcement of Tear’s hire was made internally in a staff memo from Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM President & Chief Content Officer, who described Tear as “a nationally recognized radio programming leader, an advocate for new artists, and a pioneer in creative audio content.”
Greenstein continued, “Alex will be responsible for partnering with the programming teams to further build Pandora’s listener base and maximize music assets across both the Pandora and SiriusXM platforms. More specifically, he will work closely with Pandora’s music genre leaders on refining top curated stations and playlists, and further defining strategy and execution of mood and activity programming along with new artist development.” In his new position, Tear will report directly to Alex White, VP of Content and Programming for Pandora.
Prior to his transfer to Miami in 2008, Tear served three years as SVP of Programming for Clear Channel/iHeartMedia Pittsburgh, preceded by a decade in Detroit with ABC/Disney as Director of Programming Operations for WDRQ and Director of Music Programming for WHYT. His earlier radio stops, all in Michigan, include WGRD/Grand Rapids, WVIC/Lansing, WKHQ/Traverse City and WYSS/Sault St. Marie, to name a few. Your best wishes can be sent directly to Alex via his brand new email address, Alex.tear@siriusxm.com.
