Terri Thomas Leaving Radio One

• In a surprising development, RAMP has learned that veteran programmer Terri Thomas is leaving Radio One after a successful 25-year run. Her last day is Friday, November 10. Thomas, a Boston native, has served as Operations Manager of Radio One’s Houston group — KBXX, KMJQ and KROI — since 2005, transferring from WIZF/Cincinnati. During her Houston run she also covered the Indianapolis and Charlotte markets for a time. Earlier in her career Thomas worked at WFXE (Foxie 105)/Columbus, GA and WHBX/Tallahassee.

Thomas commented, “I believe the most successful radio stations are actually lifestyle brands that amplify, embody and positively influence the culture of the city we serve. Identifying, cultivating and coaching great teams, while super-serving our listeners, clients, city and each other have been the cornerstone of my success. I’m grateful for the many opportunities over the years with Radio One to see that philosophy play out in real time. I would like to thank Ms. Hughes, Alfred Liggins and the entire Radio One family for entrusting me to captain the Houston market thru strong and difficult times that we have won and overcome together. From the pain of a city under water during Hurricane Harvey to pivoting thru a global pandemic we have conquered many obstacles together.”

Fitting to play within the Radio One name, and from her favorite movie, Drumline, Terri’s motto to her team has always been, “One Band. One Sound” — meaning that no matter what role you play on the team, we are one and when one of us wins, we all win!

As for what’s next, Thomas says, “I look forward to enjoying the holidays with my family, then continuing and expanding my efforts to make maximum impact on people, brands, and culture.” Follow Terri for some “free game” on Instagram @TerriThomas, and you can reach her directly at TerriThomasInc@gmail.com.
