The Bear Wakes Up Louder
• Black Diamond Broadcasting, owner of Classic Rock WGFN (98.1/95.3 The Bear)/Traverse City, MI has some major news to share: 1) a newly expanded morning show featuring Detroit radio veteran Mark Pennington, and 2) a third signal at 95.1FM to greatly enhance the station’s coverage in downtown TVC.
Let’s start in morning drive, where current host Tim Logan is now joined by Mark Pennington, who joined Black Diamond Broadcasting two years ago as a programming advisor. Pennington is a 30-year programming pro best known for his nearly two decades of service with WRIF and WCSX/Detroit. Together, Pennington and Logan now form the cleverly named Mark & Tim Show, weekday mornings from 6-10am. And, as a special morning show bonus, Mike Grisdale makes his triumphant return after a two-year hiatus to once again anchor “Bear News and Sports.”
OM Guy Dark explains that the addition of the new translator at 95.1, located on a ridge overlooking Traverse City, now greatly improves The Bear’s already vast coverage, augmenting the station’s existing 98.1FM signal (located in Glen Arbor) and its companion 95.3FM signal (located Indian River).
(Cue ballsy announcer): “Classic Rock The Bear — 98.1, 95.3 and 95.1 reaches more Northern Michigan listeners than any other Classic Rock station in the region!”
