The Pole Bends Into The Lake
• Earlier this month we gleefully told you about that “experimental” new format launched by Border Broadcasting’s 102.7 WYLK/Cape Vincent, NY — proudly serving Kingston, Ontario, which had jettisoned its previous Kiss FM identity for a more… um… “upper demo” direction as 102.7 The POLE, featuring high quality strip club music the whole office could agree on…
Well, as they say, all temporary things must come to an end, and today, WYLK snapped out of it and launched “Kingston’s Feel-Good Station,” 102.7 Lake FM, now playing… get this…20,000 songs-in-a row! It’s true.
Boasting that “the ’70s, ’80s and ’90’s are back on Kingston radio,” 102.7 The Lake will feature classics from Eurythmics, Eagles, Hall & Oates, Toto, Whitney Houston, Journey, Heart, REO Speedwagon, Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Madonna, Prince, Elton John, Foreigner, Genesis and Rod Stewart, etc. The Lake is also touting “Easy-to-win text contests” and concert tickets to Madonna, Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Duran Duran, and Lionel Richie with Earth, Wind & Fire, local news and weather and “real announcers.”
Moments after The Lake debuted, a very conflicted Paige Nienaber, whose shadowy hand was somehow involved in the under-appreciated concept of “The Pole,” told RAMP, “As a Mennonite Youth Pastor, I’m conflicted… it was the strip club music I could listen to in my car with my kids, and yet the music and messaging did cause my mind to stray. I guess people are always going to be afraid of innovation — buffered aspirin, pro-perspirants and car pool lanes will always scare the Establishment. I’m just blessed to have been a part of the grand experiment.”
