Tom Mitchell Exits Cumulus Syracuse

• In what can best be described as a surprising turn of events, RAMP has learned that Tom Mitchell, a fixture in the Syracuse, NY radio market for more than a quarter-century, has exited as Operations Manager of the Cumulus cluster and PD of top-rated heritage Top 40 WNTQ (93Q).

Mitchell shared the news of his departure in a Facebook post that reads, “After 26 years, August 31 was my last day as Operations Manager of Cumulus Media Syracuse. It’s an amicable departure, and now I look forward to any discussions of future opportunities that fit what I have to offer. It has been my privilege and pleasure to work with a team of talented, hard-working professionals who will enjoy continued success. (In the Spring Nielsen quarterly, 93Q is #1 total audience across the board!) Because of the terrific people I have come to know in this industry, I have enjoyed every minute of my 45 years in radio. Here’s to the next adventure…”

It’s notable that of Mitchell’s 45-year commercial radio career, 40 of those years have been spent as a programmer, starting at WPXY/Rochester in 1982. He went on to program WTIC-FM/Hartford from 1990-1993, before moving to Augusta, ME as OM of WMME & WEBB. Mitchell arrived in Syracuse in 1996 as OM of WNTQ, WAQX, WSKO & WXTL. Looking ahead, Mitchell can be contacted at audiomediatom@gmail.com.

Mitchell’s exit was also covered by Syracuse.com.
