Tony Bristol Joins Community Broadcasters
• Veteran New England programmer Tony Bristol is packing the car and headed due south, hired by Community Broadcasters as Director of Programming for the company’s music stations in Orangeburg, Sumter and Florence, SC. His start date is May 9.
Bruce Mittman, CEO of Community Broadcasters, said of Bristol, “His resume speaks for itself. The guy has done it all.” An equally enthused Community Broadcasters President Jim Leven remarked, “Tony is a total pro. His industry knowledge and steady hand will be a huge benefit for our South Carolina stations.”
Bristol is best known for his remarkable 29-year run in Providence as OM/PD of the legendary 92 PRO-FM & WWLI (Lite 105) until late 2012. That was followed by a brief stint as PD of L & L Broadcasting Hot AC WXYY (Y100)/Savannah, GA-Hilton Head, SC. More recently Bristol programmed iHeartMedia AC WSRS and WTAG (NewsRadio 580 & 94.9FM)/Worcester, MA until the company’s widespread restructuring in Jan. 2020. He’s also famously cracked the mic at KC101/New Haven, WTIC-FM/Hartford, WMJX/Boston, WPLM/Plymouth, MA and most recently, Beasley’s WROR and WKLB/Boston.
Bristol exclaimed, “I’m so excited to be back in action joining the Community Broadcasters’ teams in South Carolina. Huge thanks to Bruce Mittman, Jim Leven, Wayne Mulling and Dave Baker for their Southern hospitality and dedication to local radio.” Bristol added, “I’m trading in my snowblower for some beach chairs, if anyone’s interested.”
