Unexpected Departure Department
• RAMP has learned that Tony Mascaro has exited as PD of Cumulus News-Talk simulcast WPRO-630 AM/WEAN-99.7 FM and Business/Talk 790 WPRV-AM/Providence. No replacement has been named by Market Manager Holly Paras. Mascaro, who was recently inducted into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame, had been on the job there since January 2014, when he transferred from the OM position at sister WABC/New York.
Mascaro spent the first 17 years of his radio career at the legendary 92PRO-FM/Providence before migrating to WPLJ/New York in 1997 as MD. He was upped to OM in 2010 and later crossed the hall as OM of WABC.
• RAMP has also confirmed that San Diego morning radio royalty Jeff & The Showgram has exited CBS Radio Hot AC KyXy (96.5)/San Diego. The Showgram featured (l-r): co-host Emily Griffiths, host Jeff Detrow, co-host Laura Cain and Hall of Fame Executive Producer “Little Tommy” Sablan.
Detrow is best known as half of the famed Jeff & Jer morning duo, who, partnered with Jerry Cesak, made their San Diego debut on May 3, 1988 on the former KKYY (Y95). Two years later, the Showgram crossed the street to KFMB-FM (B100), followed by a four-year run at the late KKLQ (Q106). In 1997 the guys returned to KFMB-FM (then Star 100.7), where they reigned for eight years, followed by a move to KMYI (Star 94.1) until August 19, 2009. After a 17-month hiatus, the Showgram debuted on KyXy in January of 2011. Cesak retired from the team in October 2015. Expect KyXy to announce its new morning show very soon.
