Upgrades Galore At CMG/Tampa

• There has been a lot of movement in the programming department at Cox Media Group Tampa — this week, new stripes are awarded to John Brennan, Director of Branding and Programming for FM Talk WHPT (102.5 The Bone), who annexes similar duties for Classic Hits WXGL (107.3 The Eagle). Brennan said, “107.3 The Eagle is where I got my start in radio and I’m honored to be named the Director of Branding and Programming for such a great heritage brand.”

Across the hall, Jenna Kesneck is also awarded a promotion, from APD of Alternative WSUN (97X) and Top 40 WPOI (Hot 101.5) to Director of Branding and Programming for 97X. She will also oversee the social media strategic action planning for CMG Tampa’s six-station group. “It’s truly an honor to lead the station I grew up listening to and where I began my radio career,” Kesneck said. “I’m so grateful to CMG leadership for this incredible opportunity.”

And there’s more — OM Rick Thomas will absorb Director of Branding and Programming duties for AC WWRM (Magic 94.9) in addition to his current programming duties at Soft AC 105.5 WDUV. Thomas will also continue to oversee the care and feeding of Top 40 Hot 101.5 as the company initiates a recruitment campaign for a permanent on-air Director of Branding and Programming for the station. “We at CMG Tampa will always do what is best for our radio brands, to ensure we’re positioned for growth and success,” said Thomas, adding, “I’m excited for what’s to come!”

Keith Lawless, VP/Market Manager for CMG Tampa, commented, “I’m proud and excited for John, Jenna and for all of CMG Tampa. We are committed to continually developing our people, and are fortunate to have the opportunity to elevate some of our top talent to greater responsibility.” As we reported last week, John Larson exited as Director of Branding and Programming for Classic Hits WXGL (107.3 The Eagle) and AC WWRM (Magic 94.9) after 15 years.
