Urban One Launches ‘La Grande’ Columbus

UPDATED: Urban One Columbus, OH has entered into a Local Marketing Agreement (LMA) to assume operating responsibility for former Alternative outlet 102.5 WWCD-FM from Southern Ohio Broadcasting System. Urban One Columbus is jumping into the local radio Hispanic market by flipping the station to Regional Mexican/Tropical as La Grande 102.5 FM, effective Friday, November 6 at 10am. The new station will serve as a radio companion to Urban One-owned Telemundo affiliate WQMC-TV.

As we recently reported, WWCD was the former terrestrial home of Alternative CD102.5 until Nov. 1, when WWCD Owner/Pres./GM Randy Malloy announced he was unable to reach an agreement with WWCD’s license-holder, Southern Ohio Broadcasting System, and was forced to take the station off air and digital-only.

“We are pleased to expand our footprint again in Central Ohio by reaching the fastest growing segment of the population, inclusive of the Mexican community and growing Central and South American communities,” says RVP Eddie Harrell, Jr. “Combined with our African American-targeted radio/television assets, we are now the largest single source provider of content to African Americans and Spanish speaking residents in Central Ohio.”

Urban One is now actively seeking a bilingual PD to oversee both the new La Grande 102.5 and La Grande 105.1 in Indianapolis. Apply online via the Urban One Careers portal and email VP of Programming Colby Tyner at ctyner@radio-one.com.
